Yagan Square Aquatic Mural

Creating the project for the local mural in Yagan Square was an immensely fulfilling and enjoyable experience. It was a unique opportunity to combine my passion for art with cutting-edge technology while contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the City of Perth and the City of Joondalup.
The mural, an underwater scene, was a visual marvel that I poured my heart and soul into. From the very beginning, the project filled me with excitement and creative energy. I was eager to depict the mesmerizing beauty of the underwater world and share it with the community.
One of the aspects that made this project truly special was its integration with a real-time weather API. This allowed the mural to be dynamic and responsive to the ever-changing weather conditions. On sunny days, the colors of the mural seemed to come alive, mirroring the bright and cheerful atmosphere of the city. On rainy days, the mural adapted, reflecting the subdued and serene mood of the surroundings. It was incredibly satisfying to see my artwork evolve and adapt in real-time, making it a part of the city’s living, breathing ecosystem.
The use of boid mechanics for the fish in the mural added an extra layer of sophistication. The fish moved in a natural, organic way, creating a sense of life and motion within the artwork. Passersby would often stop and watch the fish swim, captivated by the realism and attention to detail.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was the caustic effects on the ground. The play of light and shadow on the ground, created by the water’s surface, added a sense of depth and immersion to the mural. It made the underwater scene feel even more real, as if you could almost dip your toes into the watery world I had created.
Perhaps the most profound source of satisfaction came from seeing my hard work displayed publicly in the heart of the city. Yagan Square, bustling with people from all walks of life, became the perfect canvas for my art. It was immensely gratifying to witness the reactions of the people passing by, from the curious children pointing at the fish to the smiles on the faces of those who paused to appreciate the mural’s beauty.
The mural not only brought a sense of pride and accomplishment but also a feeling of contributing positively to the community. It became a part of the city’s identity, a place where people gathered, admired, and found inspiration. It was a testament to the power of art and technology to transform public spaces into something magical and meaningful.
In the end, creating the underwater scene for Yagan Square was an experience I will always cherish. It was a harmonious blend of creativity, innovation, and community engagement. I found immense joy in every brushstroke, every line of code, and every smile it brought to the faces of those who encountered it. This project was a true labor of love, and it reminded me of the incredible impact art can have when it becomes an integral part of the urban landscape.
